Jamal Denzel Barnes is a Marrero-born photographer and filmmaker living and working in New Orleans, LA. For over a decade, Barnes has documented the culture of New Orleans with a raw, “off the porch” perspective that captures the city’s love, resilience, grime, and hustle. A continual student of photography, he brings this same authenticity to his filmmaking. His first solo exhibition, Welcome Home, debuted in early 2020, just before the pandemic. Since then, he has been featured in several group shows, including Gestures of Refusal at the Contemporary Arts Center, Proof of Life at the New Orleans African American Museum and PhotoNOLA Invitational at Arthur Roger Gallery. In 2025, Barnes was a featured artist at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where he won Best Display for his standout booth.
